About Sun Valley Potatoes

Sun Valley Potatoes is Idaho’s first grower-owned potato cooperative, rooted in the heart of the Magic Valley. Since our founding in 1978 by August R. “Gus” Blase, we’ve been driven by a simple mission: to deliver the highest-quality Idaho potatoes while sharing our success with our customers, staff, and cooperative members.

In 1988, a group of dedicated local growers came together to purchase the company, continuing its legacy as Sun Valley Potatoes, Inc. Today, our cooperative unites 15 growers who take pride in every step of the process—from planting and harvesting to packing and shipping—ensuring that every potato meets the highest standards of quality and freshness.

We’re more than just farmers—we’re a community. By owning and operating our own state-of-the-art packing and shipping facility, we control quality from field to table, delivering exceptional potatoes to our customers. Over the past 30 years, we’ve embraced innovative technology and expanded production, shipping over 4 billion pounds of Idaho potatoes to more than 1,030 locations across 45 states, Mexico, and five Canadian provinces.

Our passion for potatoes goes beyond taste and appearance. We believe in stewardship—caring for the land, supporting our growers, and sharing the bounty of Idaho’s fertile soil with people across the country.

Our Brand

The Sun Valley Brand Idaho Potatoes has been recognized since 1952, originally featuring a skier jumping over a pile of potatoes. This brand was first registered to Mueller Harris Produce Company, later owned by T. Kuwana and Robert Weaver Potato Company, before finally being transferred to A.R. “Gus” Blase.

In Memory of Coy McKenzie (1914–2001)

Coy McKenzie was the heart and soul of Sun Valley Potatoes. He began working the day the facility opened in 1973 and never missed a day until his passing on May 25, 2001. Coy’s dedication and spirit will always be part of the Sun Valley Potatoes family.
